Political Restructuring and Social Transformation

Co-ordinator Vivien Taylor

DAWN's global analysis, Marketisation of Governance: Critical Feminist Perspectives from the South, was launched at the NGO Forum for the Five Year Review of the World Summit on Social Development in Geneva in June 2000, together with a documentary film bearing the same title.
Both the book and the film give voice to the collective wisdom of Southern women scholars and activists and link globalisation and the changing role of the state with women's struggles for gender justice.
Translations of the book are available in Spanish and French. Work on the theme is continuing and a number of regional reports and books have been produced.

SOUTH ASIA PERSPECTIVES:
Globalisation and the State: Some reflections on South Asian women's experience, by Indu Agnihotri
Political Participation of Women in South Asia, by Farah Kabir
Social Movements, Femnist Movements and the State: A regional perspective, by Sunila Abeysekera
Politics and Power: A gendered perspective from South Asia, by Farida Shaheed
