DAWN'S VISION >
We want a world where inequality based on class, gender and race is absent from every country and from the relationships among countries; where basic needs become basic rights and where poverty and all forms of violence are eliminated. We want a world where the massive resources now used in the production of the means of destruction will be diverted to areas where they will help to relieve oppression both inside and outside the home; a world where all institutions are open to participatory democratic processes, where women share in determining priorities and making decisions. This political environment will provide enabling social conditions that respect women's and men's physical integrity and the security of their persons in every dimension of their lives.

GLOBAL ADVOCACY

Global Advocacy

As a network of Southern feminists and activists working for economic and gender justice and political transformation, DAWN's work at the global level is critical.

DAWN's research themes provide the focus for the network's global advocacy efforts, which are aimed at influencing mainstream development thinking and policy, securing the gains made through the UN conferences, working for greater accountability and radical restructuring of international financial institutions, and mainstreaming gender analysis in progressive development organisations.

Global advocacy work includes producing and disseminating new analyses, engaging in key global processes and meetings, participating in selected institutional reform initiatives, working in partnership with like-minded feminist and development organisations and networks, and engaging with global civil society and social movements.
