REGIONAL ENGAGEMENTS

Regional Engagements

DAWN has a presence in seven regions of the South: Africa (Anglophone and Francophone), Caribbean, Latin America, Pacific, South Asia and South East Asia. Regional research and consultation processes contribute significantly to the development of DAWN analyses of the global environment.

Currently, several regions are involved in the Financing for Development process, particularly Latin America.
South East Asia and the Caribbean are working in Gender and Trade, part of DAWN's concern with trade and the WTO.
Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights activities in the regions included work towards the UNHIV/AIDS conference.

The regional work of DAWN involves developing and disseminating analysis of regional issues which connect to DAWN's research themes, linking with region-based women's networks and development NGOs working in these theme areas, participating in regional advocacy processes, regularly sharing information and analysis of global issues through regional electronic networks of feminist researchers and activists, and generally contributing to civil society capacity-building, particularly in respect to civil society responses to globalisation.

At the regional level, DAWN relies on the support of a number of established networks, organisations and institutions, including REPEM and IBASE (Latin America), Girl Power Initiative (Anglophone Africa), WAGI (South East Asia), IIMB (South Asia) and CAFRA (Caribbean).
